Established in 1867, Kelley Energy is now in its third century of service. Things certainly have changed over the last 135 years. Most people don't realize it, but Kelley Energy, formerly M. Kelley's Sons Inc., started off as a coal delivery business. As you can see in the photograph above, our vehicles at the turn of the century had a lot of horsepower (actually we used mules).
Notice the canopy in the right-hand foreground? This coal shed cover was actually relocated from Memorial Hall (in Fairmount Park) where it was constructed for the American Centennial Celebration of 1876. It was dismantled and reinstalled in Kelley's coal yard prior to the turn of the century.
